Revisit your Christian faith throught sacred art

The birth and identity of the Musée du Hiéron blend with the history of the town of Paray-le-Monial, where a pilgrimage began in 1865, the date of the beatification of the Visitandine Marguerite-Marie Alacoque. A unique place, the Hiéron is one of the few buildings in France that was originally conceived as a museum from the end of the 19th century. Here, amongst the old collections, contemporary art becomes a transporter. Its presence re-vitalizes our curiosity towards the sacred.

Via Vitae (Way of Life) (1904), a monumental, precious artwork by fashionable parisian jeweller Joseph Chaumet (1852-1928), is the museum’s greatest treasure. The Via Vitae, destined for the basilica of the Sacred Heart of Montmartre, finally came to Paray-le-Monial following its acquisition by the museum in 2005. A true work of catechetics, it retarces the important stages of the life of Christ.
